Expect
culture shock. Culture shock may
even hit you when you return to the U.S. India is a very open-hearted country and it can be an adjustment to return to a
more isolated and constrained culture. Conversely, you may
feel very glad to get home to your creature comforts.
Get
a stool test. It's very easy to pick up parasites in India
and you want to make sure you don't carry those critters around
with you. See your doctor upon your return if you feel any abdominal cramping or unusual stools. Inform you doctor that youve been traveling in India and that you want a
stool test. The most thorough lab in the country for stool tests is Genova Diagnostics in Asheville, NC,
phone: 800- 522-4762. They are expensive (check to see if
your insurance
pays) and it can be worth paying for their services as local
labs often arent completely reliable or thorough
Finish
all prescribed malaria medication. Malaria medication
usually needs to be taken for a certain number of days or
weeks upon your return. Follow your doctor's recommendations.
